Our Best Answer - What is DACA?
Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)
Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (“DACA”) is a form of temporary administrative relief from deportation. The purpose of DACA is to protect eligible immigrants who came to the United States when they were children from deportation. DACA provides qualifying undocumented immigrants: 1) protection from deportation, 2) a Social Security Number, and 3) a work permit (Employment Authorization Document, or “EAD card”) for a two year period.* DACA does not provide legal immigration status or grant a path to permanent residency or citizenship.
AS of January 2018, only DACA recipients are able to re-apply for DACA. No new applicants are accepted.
