Our Best Answer - How do I indicate my preferred first name?

Preferred Name

UCSB aims to serve students from all genders, gender identities, and gender expressions. Effective June 17, 2016, students may provide UCSB with a preferred first name to display, in lieu of legal name, in most campus systems. This change comes in response to longstanding interest from several campus constituencies, as well as recent guidance from the UC Office of the President and the US Department of Education, both of which have recommended that campuses transition to the use of preferred first name.

Any student can specify a preferred first name in Identity Services Directory Editor, updating the "Commonly Used First Name" field.
