Our Best Answer - Can I repeat a course?

Repeating Courses

Repeating to improve a grade:

Certain courses may be repeated for credit, and are identified in the course descriptions in this catalog. Repetition of any course other than these is subject to certain regulations, which pertain only to courses completed in the University of California. For more information on repeating classes to improve a grade, please visit the General Catalog.

Repeating for additional credit

Information about courses designed to be repeated for credit are identified in the course listings within the General Catalog and GOLD.

If attempting to repeat a course more than once (i.e. take the course for the third time) for the purpose of improving a grade, undergraduate students require approval of their college.  Graduate students should consult with their academic department anytime they wish to repeat a course for the purpose of substituting the second grade for the first.

When registering for a course in GOLD that is repeatable for additional units, you will be asked to indicate whether you would like to take the course for:

1) a better grade, or

2) more units.

If you indicate that you would like to take the course to improve a grade and are not eligible based on the repeat policy, you will be dropped from the course.

For additional information, please visit the General Catalog section on repeating classes.  If you have any questions on repetition of courses, please contact the Office of the Registrar at email RegRecords@sa.ucsb.edu  or visit the website for more options.
